The Standard interviewed mothers of famous Texans for Mother’s Day 2016.

Laura Wilson’s famous in her own right, as a celebrated photographer with work in the New York Times, Vanity Fair and GQ. But you probably know her sons better – Andrew, Owen and Luke Wilson have been a part of dozens of films, including Bottle Rocket, The Royal Tenenbaums, Midnight in Paris, and Wedding Crashers.

“There’s been no more important thing in my life – in my entire life – than being a mother,” she says. “What does success mean if you have children who are unhappy or without confidence in what they do themselves?”

Wilson says raising three teenage boys was challenging. “When we hit the teenage years, I must say, I was a bit overwhelmed,” she says, “that’s to say it mildly.”

Now that they’ve grown up, she hopes she’s been able to keep them inspired and grounded, as they have inspired and grounded her.

“But now, I feel this amazing sense of how lucky I am to have three boys, all healthy, all bright,” she says. “I’m comforted and made happy by each of them. Their friendship, their kindness to me, their humor, their wide range of interests has grounded me.”
