When she first moved to Texas, like so many of our great state’s transplants, 9-year-old Mia Schwartz says she didn’t know what to expect.

“I thought it was going to be like a desert, cactuses everywhere.”

“We learned about the Alamo war,” Mia says. “At first, Texas was part of Mexico, then Texas decided it was going to be independent.”

“Only two people survived.”

So there you have it, Texas.

Until next time, talk to your kids about Texas and its history — you might be surprised by what you hear.
