Time for the week that was in Texas politics, with Emily Ramshaw, editor in chief of the Texas Tribune.

Questioning of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh continued on Capitol Hill, Thursday, and included a testy exchange between Texas Sen. John Cornyn and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker. Both are members of the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Ramshaw says Booker wanted records related to Kavanaugh’s time as a member of the George W. Bush administration released. Cornyn and other Republicans did not want the documents released. Cornyn threatened that if Booker released the documents, he could be expelled from the Senate.

“In the end, it didn’t matter because all of the documents were released,” Ramshaw says. “So everyone got to have whatever conversation they wanted.”

Ramshaw says Cornyn and the other Texas senator, Ted Cruz, will almost certain vote to confirm Kavanaugh.

Beto O’Rourke, who’s running against Cruz, appeared on “Ellen” this week. It’s the latest example of Hollywood’s embrace of the El Paso Democrat.

“There’s great and growing interest in him nationally,” Ramshaw says.

The O’Rourke campaign got into hot water this week when people began receiving text messages that were allegedly sent by the campaign. The messages asked volunteers to transport undocumented immigrants to the polls. The O’Rourke campaign said an imposter sent the messages, and the Cruz campaign said it had no involvement in the hoax.
