Austin Community Grapples With Race In The Wake Of Serial Bombings

Leaders and citizens gathered in east Austin to discuss the role race, and perceived racism, played in the coverage of the bombings that killed three Austinites.

In Austin Thursday, there was an unusual meeting with city officials, activists and community members. They met at a museum to discuss Austin’s racial climate following the serial explosions earlier this month. Austin Interim Police Chief Brian Manley made headlines by referring to the serial bomber as a domestic terrorist, but KUT Austin’s DaLyah Jones reported conversations that included community members, and challenged city leaders to address racism in Austin.
