A legislator says Texas mothers have been dying in childbirth at the highest rates in the nation.

Rep. Shawn Thierry (D-Houston), issued a press release last month praising Gov. Greg Abbott for including extending the life of the Maternal Mortality and Morbidity Task Force as a topic for this month’s upcoming special legislative session.

Thierry said in the press release: “[W]e now know that our Texas mothers are dying during childbirth at the highest rates in the nation. This time around, we cannot afford for party politics to stand in the way of resolving this crisis.”

Is that a fact? Gardner Selby of the PolitiFact Texas fact-checking team has the answer.

Hear how Thierry’s claim scored in the player above.
