Ronald Romero is the owner and operator of Romero’s Heritage Fruit and Vegetable, a roadside farmers market that’s been family owned since 1926.

Some of their most popular items are tomatoes, zucchini squash, pickling cucumbers, and Hass avocados.

He says they were ready with a plan for getting through Harvey. “Took all our merchandise from our locations and put it in our refrigeration units back at the house and just kind of waited out the storm there, but the storm came to us,” he says.

Still, the business took a hit anyway.

“The generators got taken over by the water so they didn’t do us any good,” he says. In the end, they lost about $15,000 worth of merchandise.
