It’s time to talk about the week that was in Texas politics. Reporter Patrick Svitek spoke with the Standard Friday to talk about what’s been going on across the state.

The big news in Texas politics this week was another veteran of prime-time TV heading to Washington. Rick Perry is President-elect’s top pick for Secretary of Energy.

Svitek says Perry has the general qualification of having a lot of executive experience.

“There’s been a lot made of the fact [the department] is involved more in the nuclear arsenal in some ways than oil and gas, which people would naturally associate with Texas and Rick Perry,” Svitek says. “But I think, especially when you look at the lack of qualifications on the surface that some of the other appointees have, I think Rick Perry is probably relatively qualified for this job.”
