Ever heard of Midnight, Texas? It’s not on a map. Rather “Midnight, Texas” is a new NBC Monday-night vampire drama set in a fictitious small town. Filled with supernatural showdowns between ghosts, demons and even a weretiger, the show sprang from a book trilogy, “A Novel of Midnight” written by mystery author Charlaine Harris.

A Mississippi Delta native, Harris chose Texas, she says, because of the unique culture of the town where she spent part of her childhood summers, Rocksprings, Texas. Unlike in the Delta, where she says people believe in “the polite lie,” Texans were frank, which Harris appreciated.

Harris’ past work is the basis of the hit vampire show “True Blood.”
