Lucha Libre: A San Antonio Tradition Unlike Any Other

The “freestyle” wrestling matches are a tradition in the Alamo City.

Around 460 men, women and children gathered around a ring set up on the first floor of San Antonio’s Central Library. Paintings lined the walls behind them, but they were ready to watch a different kind of art: two hours of wrestling.

But not just any wrestling, they were there to watch the Mexican-style of wrestling called lucha libre.
