Sugar Land Is A Pretty Sweet Place To Visit

The Houston suburb is known as the sweetest city in Texas — a moniker it got as home to the Imperial Sugar Company.

Sugar Land is a great destination for those with a sweet tooth.

Sub Zero Ice Cream and Yogurt gives you over 30 flavors to choose from such as amaretto, brownie batter, and white chocolate. Or try Mystic Dessert Bar, where you can experience chocolate dipped bacon — or just “normal” ice cream and cakes.

If you’re looking for more than just desserts, The Toasted Yolk Cafe recently had its grand opening in Sugar Land Town Square. A flavorful breakfast or brunch menu will entice the taste buds, with an array of eggs benedict flavors, which they refer to as The Arnolds. There’s the Alaskan Arnold, the West Coast Arnold, the Southern Fried Arnold — you get the picture. Or you can’t go wrong with brisket tacos, a double-decker four-egg omelette, or the actual Toasted Yolk: two slices of sourdough bread grilled with an egg in the middle.

Nearby is the convenient Sugar Land Marriott Town Square — a great place to stay in the middle of the action. I love their ode to Imperial Sugar in much of their lobby art.

And I was super excited to discover Vino & Vinyl — where you can listen to sweet vinyl records while you sip your wine flight and dine on an array of delicious dishes. I recommend starting out with the cast iron meatball skillet or go crazy with the poutine or risotto balls. They also offer local craft beers, a frose (frozen rose), and sangria. Wednesday is BYOV: bring your own vinyl.

If you’re looking for some classic cocktails, The Sugar Refinery is the place for you. You’ll be jonesin’ to travel back in time after visiting this Prohibition-era speakeasy. Or check out The Middle Spoon where you can choose from desserts and drinks such as the chocolate lava cake with an Aphrodite martini.

Sugar Land’s attractions are also sweet. Constellation Field is where you can catch a Skeeters’ baseball game. Or pack your jackets and head to Sugar Land’s Ice & Sports Center for ice skating.

And there’s no shortage of shopping options in Sugar Land. Besides Sugar Land Town Square there’s also First Colony Mall with upscale apparel such as Michael Kors and Coach, outlet-style shopping at The Market at Town Center, and shopping with waterfront dining at Lake Pointe Town Center.
