Texans Are Catching Poké-Fever

If you’ve suddenly seen strangers and children wandering in front of your home or office – no need to be alarmed! They’re probably catching Pokémon.

The game as exploded in popularity since its release earlier this month, leaving some of us scratching their heads.

Digital savant Omar Gallaga, who writes for 512 Tech powered by the Austin-American Statesman, says it’s an app-based game from a company associated with Nintendo that uses GPS to find Pokémon.

“You go around in the real world and you catch these virtual creatures on a map,” he says. “It’s generating this wave of nostalgia for people that grew up in the ‘90s.”
