The U.S. Census Bureau put out a special release today along with its new population numbers – it’s focused just on Texas growth. The headline reads: four Texas metro areas collectively added more than 400,000 people in the last year. That’s a lot of Texans.
Growth that rapid is happening all around the state. In fact, areas around Houston, Dallas, Austin and San Antonio added more people last year than any state in the country – except Texas as a whole.
Census Bureau demographer Peter Borsella says that a portion of that growth is people moving in to Texas from other parts of the nation.
“A large portion of the growth in Texas is due to domestic migrating,” he says, “which is migration from elsewhere in the country.”
