Friday means it’s time to talk Texas politics. This week, the Standard brought in Jay Root, reporter for the Texas Tribune.

Root worked with fellow Tribune reporter Neena Satija on a joint investigation by The Texas Tribune and Reveal from the

Center for Investigative Reporting on the issue of corruption at the border. It’s part of a yearlong series on issues that weaken protections at the border. For this story, Root says, they focused exclusively on Customs and Border Protection agents.

“What we found, frankly, was shocking,” he says. “People (were) using their badge not to protect the border, but to actually move dope and people across the border.”

What you’ll hear in this segment:

– How many officials had been arrested in connection with border corruption

– What kinds of charges the officers were charged with and why

– A comprehensive database that the Tribune compiled in partnership with the Center for Investigative Reporting
