They don’t call it March Madness for nothing.

Sunday night the Lady Bears of Baylor secured their third national basketball championship, defeating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. With 3.9 seconds left, Baylor’s Chloe Jackson scored the layup that clinched their 82-81 victory.

“It was a pretty emotional moment,” says Tori McElhaney, who covered the game for sports site, The Athletic.

Of course the Lady Bears are not the only big basketball story in the Lone Star State. Monday night, the Texas Tech Red Raiders will play the Virginia Cavaliers for the NCAA men’s championship.

Eleanor Guinan is a staff writer for the Daily Toreador, Texas Tech’s student newspaper.  “Everyone is [feeling] on edge and super excited. It’s really great,” she says.

This is Texas Tech’s first appearance in the title game.

School officials canceled classes after 5 p.m. on Monday, and all day Tuesday.
