Typewriter Rodeo: Cedar Fever

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

We knew it was coming. The endless waves of pollen, the sleepless nights, wasted days. We call it cedar fever even though it’s really the juniper’s fault. No matter what you name it, it’ll stop you in your tracks. Can you pass the tissues?

Cedar Fever

you spend weeks thinking
you hab a code
settled into your node
your chest is heaby
and the snot oberflows
but you know
what?
it’s not a code
it’s something more insidious dan dat
something dat lasts and lasts
and lasts
it eats your sinuses
from the inside out
it destroys your sick leave
makes your brain give out
dis yellow schmutz
blowing from deh trees
evil cedar
bringing us all
to our knees
