Typewriter Rodeo: Daylight Savings Time

Sunday we gained an hour of sleep. With the time change also came some cooler Texas weather. David Fruchter says he used that as inspiration for this week’s poem.

Fall Back, Texas

the calendar claims that it’s fall

and i suppose that’s true

the nights, they bring some coolness

like they didn’t used to do

the daytime sun still makes you sweat

but it doesn’t try to kill you

a few trees here and there change shade

and that’s enough to thrill you

the moon looms low and orange and large

in the eastern evening sky

telling you the time has come

to kiss summer goodbye

and take a breath of air that’s not

all heated like an oven

in Texas, autumn’s like the spring

a season that’s for lovin
