Typewriter Rodeo: Inbox Zero

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

The count of unread messages in your email inbox is at 574 … make that 575 … make that 577. That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem.

Inbox Zero

This week I have systematically

Sorted all of my spam

Into three categories:

Spam

Extremely Spam

& Probably Not Spam but I’d rather

Just delete because I don’t need

anything else in my inbox

Meanwhile my co-worker enthusiastically flashes

his *unread notifications – 42,616

A number that causes my legs to tingle

My forehead to sweat

And my blood pressure monitor

To sidle up beside me for a hug

But the truth is

We’re not too different, no matter our inboxes

We all love a note of good news

We all groan when a monthly bill arrives

And we all relish a chance to

take a cleansing breath

as we gleefully hit

unsubscribe
