Typewriter Rodeo: Long Distance Fan

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Do you sometimes feel like a strawberry in a sea of burnt orange? Or a golden nugget in a crowd of blue and silver? That was the inspiration for this Typewriter Rodeo poem

LONG DISTANCE FAN

Sure
You can root
For the home team
The team on every billboard and bumper sticker
The game on every TV
And radio station
Maybe even clap
And give a good-hearted cheer
At all the right times…

But your heart
Your true full-fan love
Lies elsewhere…

Perhaps a city away
Maybe a state
Or even another
Country

And thats why
In those moments when everyone else
Here
Is quiet
You’ll be whooping and leaping
A stadium of one
Knowing that somewhere
Far away
A entire town
Is cheering
Right along with you.
