Typewriter Rodeo: Marching Band

Each week, the Texas Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on a relevant headline or topic.

With UT’s first home game and the first week of NFL games this weekend, football season will soon be in full swing. But there are other heroes of the field, writes Kari Anne Roy.

MARCHING BAND

They’re bruisers and brutes

Fierce competitors who will strip you down to your quivering core

They never stop

Under pressure

During hail storms aplenty

While temperatures reach the kind of hot that makes hot hot

These people are warriors

And while they march on

Through thick and thin

Through squalls and swelters

They stay in formation

They stay in tune

They carry a tuba that’s heavier than you

Heck yeah, the marching band

The heroes of the field

The crazy lunatics

Who would rather die than yield.
