Typewriter Rodeo: McDonald Observatory

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

The dark west Texas sky and the excellent viewing facilities at the McDonald Observatory offer the best way to view the stars. And don’t just look – learn from the staff and exhibits .

McDonald Observatory

Here

In the bright lights

Of your big city

The World is so

Small…

All you can see are bits and pieces

Of the whole

But oh

Oh

Take that dry flat trek

Out west

(Keep going, keep going, almost there)

And then

Rising up

Those Davis Mountains

And those shimmery domes

And so

Little

Rise…

So make that windy drive

To the top

Skim the visitor center

Educate yourself at the Star Party

And then, simply, look up —

You

Here beneath this great grand

Glittering galaxy

As it was meant

To be seen.
