Typewriter Rodeo: Pollen

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Perhaps you’re enjoying spring wildflower season. Or maybe instead you’re overwhelmed by allergies.

Pollen!

Oh I hear nature

It’s a callin’

No not like that –

I’m talking pollen!

My nasal passages

They constrict

And not because

I just picked

No it’s all that dust

In the air

The air, my clothes

And everywhere!

It’s so bad now

I can barely breathe

It’s even covering

My whole sleeve!

So it does no good

To wipe with that

It’s so thick now

I’m not sure where I’m at

But nothing to do

Except tread on

And maybe hold my breath

Until it’s gone…
