Typewriter Rodeo: Quitting Facebook

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Many of us threaten to do it, but most don’t go through with quitting Facebook. Leaving the social media site that connects us virtually with so many people can sometimes leave us feeling even more isolated, but it just might be what we need to feel more connected in real life.

Quitting Facebook

What is it worth to you,

these pages

these likes

these hearts

these fights?

What does it mean to you,

to quit

to run

to shut it down

to strike

What would you lose,

every day

every second

every late minute

every night

What would life be like

un-tracked

un-monitored

un-watched

un-liked?

There might be less cats

less jokes

less ads

less sunlight

but would there be

more smiling

more seeing

more you

more life
