In Texas, the “iced” is often assumed when tea is served. Not so much in other parts of the world, where tea is a beverage of warmth and comfort. But even here, especially when there’s a nip in the air, a hot mug of tea sometimes hits the spot.
Tea
I ask for tea in Texas
And my glass is iced and tall
They’ll ask me if I want it sweet
(I do not, not at all)
My tea is poured from pitchers
replenished through my meal
Gallons of cold refreshing caffeine
til my heart rate is barely real
But oh, my friends, here comes the truth
my tea addiction runs deep
But what I crave…is a steamy mug
of english breakfast, patiently steeped
To drink my tea in Texas
I’ll add the qualifier “hot”
Then pour in a splash of cream
and put a cozy on my pot
