Typewriter Rodeo: Texans & Their Trucks

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on the news.

If there’s one thing most Texans can agree on, it’s a love of trucks. Whether you favor the vintage variety or something new with all the bells and whistles, trucks have a special place in this state. That was the inspiration for Typewriter Rodeo’s Kari Anne Roy as she wrote this week’s poem.

Texans & Their Trucks

doesn’t matter if it’s four wheel

or a dually taking up a lane and a half

maybe it’s a little nissan

or some old beast that your daddy drove

and his daddy drove

your truck

is you

and if it’s not you

it’s the you

you want to be

it rides you high

and gets you where you need to go

it hauls your crap

and your precious crap, too

your truck

your truck

is you

people not from texas might not get it

but who cares about them

we’ll be there with our V8s

to get them out of trouble

because no matter what anyone says

or does

Texans are nuts

about their trucks
