Wildflowers are dotting the highways, fireflies are flitting about during dusk and it’s still cool enough to sit outside most days. The telling signs of the spring season inspired this week’s poem.
Texas Spring
Spring is here!
The bluebonnets pop
The highways are blanketed in rainbows
It’s sunny and bright
And all feels right
A bright blue sky as far as the day goes
But we hear it on the horizon
A rumbling so deep
We think it’s an oncoming storm
Nope.
It’s the cranky low groaning
Of the Texas summer warbler
Warning us that it’s about to get warm.
Summer’s a-coming, and it just won’t be stopped
It’s sneaking in when we’re not looking
A lovely spring day! Only 73 degrees!
Then a flash…
it’s 99
and we’re cookin’
