Typewriter Rodeo: Theatre Kids

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

As long as we have stories to tell, we’ll need theatre kids bringing them to life.

Theatre Kids

You see us down the back hallways
Missing class for tech
Testing out the newest stitch on our
costume-making sewing machines

Practicing scales and running lines
And you maybe think –
This is fun and all, but what’s the point?
It’s not like you can be in plays forever
It’s not like you can science musical

But. Oh.

We have stormed the Bastille
And we have brought down the chandelier
And we have spoken (and sung) truth to power
And we not throwing away our shot

So laugh as you may
We’re the ones you’ll see
Bringing strength
Bringing truth

Bringing compassion
And building community
One curtain call
at a time
