Typewriter Rodeo: Transition

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Inauguration Day is here, and that means change. We don’t know what’s next – but we rarely ever do. Whether you cheered or not, tomorrow is a new day, with new problems, new ideas, and new ways to be a part of your community.

Transition

This moment
Where words change worlds
Where bags are packed and unpacked
Where all is new and old again

This moment
Where some cheer
And some fear
And we reach for our neighbors
And search for our community

This moment
Where we lock eyes
Eyes up, Eyes up Rise up

We are present and we are past and we are future

Crafting the history to be and the stanzas to remember

In this moment
We breathe change
We await the work to be done
We hold fast
To our community
To our neighbors
To hope, indivisible
