Typewriter Rodeo: Urban Coyotes

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Some call them hipsters – or maybe that term has lost its edge. If you have spent any time in a large city, you’ve seen these denizens of the urban landscape. Fear them? Respect them? Avoid them? Or, perhaps, join them.

Urban Coyotes

Me?

I am the pure embodiment

Of wild –

This thick-flowing beard?

This shows my true

Nature

These skin-tight jeans?

These can’t help

But catch

Your eye

And as I strut out

In my skinny shiny shoes

Perhaps to get a hand-crafted latte

Or a lavender-infused cocktail

Ensconced in a tiny

Delicate wood-carved box

Yes as I walk down

The city street

I bring out everyone’s

Inner

Howl

Because I

Am the urban

Coyote.

Now where

Did I put

My scooter?
