Typewriter Rodeo: Vote

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

By Jodi EgertonNovember 4, 2016 10:20 am,

Today is the last day of early voting in Texas, and next Tuesday is Election Day. Forget the candidates, forget the talking heads on cable news, forget the social media arguments – remember that part of what makes our country special is our right to vote. No matter who you tick the box for, make sure you get your voice heard.

Vote

The ballots are ready

The candidates poised

The signs are all printed and staked

Now it’s time for our chance

To let them hear our voice

They’re listening – make no mistake

All the policies procedures amdenments and bills

Will be crafted by those we elect

So please

take some time

get out to the polls

Our civic duty we must protect

Let’s not leave the government

To just a small few

The percentage who actually show up

Make this November the time for your voice

Hit the polls–

walk

bike

drive

or gallop
