The Standard checks in with the week that was in Texas politics with Emily Ramshaw, editor-in-chief of the Texas Tribune.

Which Texas congressman would and wouldn’t be attending Donald Trump’s inauguration one of the things dominating this week’s news cycle. Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick made the trip to Washington, D.C., as did many other Texas Republicans.

But some Democratic congressmen – like Joaquin Castro, Lloyd Doggett, Al Green and Filemon Vela – boycotted the ceremony and stayed in Texas.

“[Democrats are] not going to have much voice to begin with under this administration,” Ramshaw says. I think it’s just them sort of saying, ‘look, this may be the person that the nation elected, but we can’t stand for it.”

What you’ll hear in this segment:

– Two things that stood out during Rick Perry’s confirmation hearings

– Whether Perry knew what the Department of Energy does before accepting the position

– Whether Abbott has weighed in about the “bathroom bill”
