Typewriter Rodeo: It’s Not The Heat, It’s The Humidity

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

Temperatures and humidity keep rising, and the hot Texas summer is the inspiration for this week’s poem.

It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity

if you have even one bit of curl

to your hair

you know that in Texas

it can grow to five times

its normal size

you know it can attain

its own sentience

sitting atop your crown

expanding

growing

the humidity feeding it

like heat grows okra

and lord help you

if you try to tame the beast

because all product absorbs into its maw

it’s not the heat

it’s the humidity, y’all

that makes Texans stand so tall
