Laura wears many hats for Texas Standard. Listeners will sometimes hear her hosting or filing reports. More often, her work as managing producer keeps her busy behind the scenes, making editorial decisions about what’s on the program. Laura is also passionate about working with the next generation of journalists through her work leading Texas Standard’s internship program.
Laura loves leading special projects for the team – including the National Edward R. Murrow Award-winning documentary “Out Of The Blue: 50 Years After The UT Tower Shooting” and the Headliners Foundation Storytelling Award-winning documentary “The Long Haul: Texas And The Pandemic.” She was also awarded a National Edward R. Murrow in innovation for her work chronicling Texans’ efforts to gain access to the COVID-19 vaccine.
Before joining the Texas Standard team, Laura worked just a few cubicles over in the local KUT Newsroom, where she served as the station’s Morning Edition producer and fill-in host. Laura found radio after a start in television news: She worked as an anchor, reporter and producer at stations in Austin, Amarillo and Toledo, Ohio. She graduated from journalism school at the University of Missouri-Columbia and earned an MA in Media Studies from the University of Texas at Austin’s department of Radio-Television-Film.
Laura is a mom of two who enjoys travel, film and audio books.
