Laura is a host and managing producer of Texas Standard. Laura has been based at KUT News in Austin for more than a decade.
She leads special projects for the team — including the multi award-winning documentary “Out Of The Blue: 50 Years After The UT Tower Shooting” and “The Long Haul: Texas And The Pandemic.” Laura is passionate about working with the next generation of journalists in her leadership of the KUT News internship program. Laura’s reporting and producing has been honored with numerous awards — including two National Edward R. Murrow awards.
Before joining the Texas Standard team, Laura worked just a few cubicles over in the local KUT Newsroom where she served as the station’s Morning Edition producer and fill-in host.
Laura began her career in television news at stations in Austin, Amarillo and Toledo, Ohio. She graduated from journalism school at the University of Missouri-Columbia and earned an MA from UT-Austin’s department of Radio-Television-Film.
Laura is a movie lover, an out-of-practice triathlete and does most of her reading these days at bedtime for her two curious kids.
