Raul Alonzo is assistant digital editor for the Texas Standard. He joined the show in September 2022 after a decade of working in the world of newspapers. He now focuses on applying his skills to help bring Texas Standard stories to life on the web.

Raul also enjoys producing the occasional segment and delving into reporting, with a particular interest in South Texas history and culture, as well as nature (especially birds!). His reporting work for the Standard has earned three regional Edward R. Murrow awards, a Texas Broadcast News Award and a certificate of merit from the Headliners Foundation of Texas.

You may also occasionally hear him filling in on the air for the Talk of Texas.

Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, Raul graduated from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi with a bachelor’s degree in Media Studies while minoring in Digital Journalism. He dabbles in photography, birding, blogging and printmaking and can often be found exploring nature trails or the bargain bins of local record stores.
