Typewriter Rodeo: Green Thumbs

Each week, the Standard reaches out to Austin’s Typewriter Rodeo for a custom poem on Texas topics.

A little rain (or a lot) and some warmer weather in parts of Texas mean the ground has sprung back to life. This Typewriter Rodeo poem celebrates and investigates the human efforts to cultivate the earth.

Green Thumbs

the ground awakes
somehow the weeds do first
the bounty of mistakes
always reveal the work

we play along
toe the line
plot the earth

and with our hands
we create tomorrow
planting seeds

to reap a sight our mind had borrowed
