About 1.5 million Texans identify as Asian American. While that’s about 5% of the Texas population, Asians are now the fastest-growing population in the Lone Star State, expected to grow to nearly 6 million by 2050. Though small in number, Asian Texans are not one group but many different ones who came here, like everyone does, for a better job, a better life.

As the 2020 Census comes to a close, the Texas Standard offers this modest showcase on this Labor Day. This is, by no means, a comprehensive storytelling project, nor the last word. Instead, we offer this show as a conversation starter, the first of many we hope to bring you about the rich and varied groups that are Texas.
