Familiar towns and attractions are enhanced by new places to stay, eat and drink.

We’re a few weeks into 2019. By this time, some of us might have given up on that new diet or gym schedule. But it’s not too late to get back on track.

A resolution you might be more inclined to keep is one that involves the goal of doing more traveling around the Lone Star State. Marika Flatt, travel editor for Texas Lifestyle Magazine and the voice of Texas Standard’s “Weekend Trip Tip,” put together a list of 19 destinations. She highlights a few of them with Host David Brown.

– New Baunfels is known for tubing and other water attractions. But the town also features a historic main street. Next to Prince Solms Inn, which has been in town since the 1800s, is a new craft beer and burger bar.

– Seguin’s Geronimo Creek Retreat is peaceful and serene in the offseason, with a beautiful creek nearby. But in the summer, it’s a party. You’ll find stand-up paddle boarding, kayaks and four treehouses where guests can stay the night.

– In downtown Houston, Hotel Alessandra has undergone a multi-million-dollar renovation. It’s walking distance from bars and restaurants and Finn Hall, a high-end food court of sorts with ten restaurants and bars.

– Burnet, in Central Texas, features the state’s first chairlift-equipped downhill mountain biking park, Spider Mountain. It’s due to open in spring 2019.

– In the town of Fischer, located near Wimberley, there’s the Devil’s Backbone tavern. The historic honky-tonk is under new management, giving it a second life. It feels like an old Texas dance hall.

You can learn more about these and other Texas destinations in the travel issue of Texas Lifestyle Magazine.
