After Stalemate, DOJ Asks Supreme Court to Reconsider Texas Immigration Case

In a rare move, the U.S. Department of Justice is asking the Supreme Court to rehear a case. United States v. Texas revolves around immigration orders from President Obama, meant to provide temporary relief to certain undocumented immigrants in the country. After last month’s 4-4 stalemate, the DOJ wants the Supreme Court to take the case back up when it’s nine justices strong.

Then: When you’re out shopping at the grocery store and need to grab some rice – what kind are you looking for? White? Brown? Jasmine? Or just whatever cooks the quickest? What if you could pick up a bag of Presidio or Hidalgo rice?

Anna McClung used to work at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Beaumont facility between 1991 and 2007.  Now she’s the research leader at the Dale Bumpers National Rice Research Center in Arkansas. She says developing new varieties of rice – that, say, taste better or can better withstand pests– takes seven to ten years. And that’s before you decide what to name it! 

And: South Texas Star Selena is finally getting a wax statue at Madame Tussauds in Hollywood. The museum heeded a Change.org petition from last year signed by almost 10,000 people.
