An LNG Glut Could Mean Lower Energy Prices For Consumers

LNG exports are down 50% this month, creating lower prices for consumers.

The continuing glut of liquified natural gas, or LNG, shows no signs of ending any time soon. As LNG exports continue to drop, lower LNG prices could benefit consumers. 

Matt Smith is director of commodity research at ClipperData. He says about half of all exports have been cancelled for the month of July. 

“The world is over-supplied with natural gas. Specifically in the U.S., we’re oversupplied because of industrial demand being down as a result of the coronavirus,” Smith said.
