Physician, former congressman from Texas and former presidential candidate, Ron Paul, says that a claim about the lethality of the new coronavirus by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director, Dr. Anthony Fauci, is “a claim without any scientific basis.”

Is that a fact?

Madlin Mekelburg dug into it for PolitiFact Texas, based at the Austin American-Statesman. She tells Texas Standard that Paul’s critique came from a column on his website, criticizing what he called the “coronavirus hoax.” Paul pointed to congressional testimony by Fauci, when Fauci said that COVID-19 is 10 times deadlier than the seasonal flu. He went on to call Fauci “the chief fearmonger of the Trump Administration.”

Hear how Paul’s claim scored in the player above.
