In the past, police have down some pretty wild things to make a bust. They’ve posed as pizza delivery drivers, they’ve acted like bartenders, set up bait cars to lure thieves… it’s always a little hard to believe.

Take for instance, a recent posting on Facebook that’s been making the rounds. It’s a photograph purporting to be from a newspaper ad in which a Texas police department urges drug dealers to narc on other dealers. They’ve even a fillable form to do so.

Pretty proactive policing if you ask us, but is that a fact?

We asked PolitiFact Texas fact-checker Gardner Selby.

The post showed up in August, somebody said on FB, the local newspaper ad said:

“Is your drug dealing competition costing you money? Would you like to eliminate that problem? We can help! We can take your competition off the streets for FREE. Report your competition to us.

Snopes.com’s Oct. 26, 2015 analysis said a person at the Lumberton Police Department, whom it did not identify,  confirmed that the ad ran, though didn’t recall when.

See how the newspaper ad rated in the audio player above.
