Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders made a stop in several Texas cities this week to stump for Vice President Kamala Harris. Joining him were several big names in progressive politics, including New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rep. Greg Casar of Central Texas and former El Paso congressman Beto O’Rourke.
Sanders and his crew were targeting young, progressive voters that may be disillusioned with presidential hopeful Harris and other top-of-the-ticket Democrats who some liberal voters feel aren’t progressive enough on some issues, like the Israel-Palestine conflict, said James Barragán, politics reporter for The Texas Tribune.
“Their message was, ‘hey, we recognize that there are issues with the top of the ticket when it comes to things like the conflict in Gaza that you may not be particularly thrilled about, but we still think this is the best option,'” Barragán said. “And their message was we have to choose Harris and Walz over Trump and Vance.”
