Another Twitter alternative is having a moment right now: Bluesky, which has the financial backing of Twitter cofounder Jack Dorsey, has acquired politicians and influencers as members, even before the platform becomes available to the general public.
U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, CNN’s Jake Tapper, and influencer Chrissy Teigen have joined Bluesky – and invitations to get into the beta program are a hot commodity online.
Texas Standard producer/reporter Shelly Brisbin says fans of Bluesky enjoy its chaotic energy but that norms on the platform are evolving.
Highlights from this segment:
– Bluesky says it has some 55,000 users, but the iOS and Android apps have been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times.
– Celebrities and politicians have joined the platform, saying the experience is more fun than today’s Twitter.
– Bluesky developers struggle to manage the raucous userbase, many of whom seem intent on testing the new platform’s limits.
– According to the Bluesky terms of service, anything you post on the site belongs to the platform, not to the poster.
