President Donald Trump said recently that new technology is helping healthcare workers recycle masks. According to Trump, masks can be sterilized up to twenty times, which is “like ordering 20 times more masks.”
Is that a fact?
The fact checkers at Politifact looked into this claim, made by Trump at a press conference. Politifact Texas’s Madlin Mekelburg says that Trump was responding to criticism from health care workers that the administration has not done enough to make masks and other personal protective equipment available to frontline workers. He countered, saying “We’re also using a sterilization process ― some great equipment that will sterilize masks up to 20 times per mask. So that’s like ordering 20 times more masks. And it’s working very well.”
