In Two Texas Truths and a Lie, three stories are given to two contestants to compete to see who can figure out the fake one. This week it’s Madalyn Mendoza and Kelsey Bradshaw with the San Antonio Express-News and MySA.com.
Here are this week’s stories:
1. Hidden beneath the Central Texas waters of Lake Buchanan was a ghost town that dates back to the 19th century. Residents were in the midst of moving out of the town to make way for the artificially-created lake when heavy rains hit. It flooded what remained of the town including its cemetery. The town was first revealed when drought zapped water out of the lake back in 2009.
2. And speaking of towns altered by natural phenomena: Southern Methodist University Scientists are wondering if a third sinkhole could emerge near the Wink Sinks. Those two sink holes have been sitting between the towns of Wink and Kermit for years now. That leads other researchers to believe that the two current sink holes are growing too slowly for a third to emerge.
3. Landowners have failed time and again to stop a pipeline from being built through their West Texas ranches – but it might be former residents who put a wrench in the gas line. Construction workers in the Big Bend Region making way for the Trans-Pecos pipeline turned up a series of water pumps from the 1880s – leading researchers to believe it’s the infrastructure for a long-lost and historic town. It’s unclear if the company can build through the area.
