A portrait of George Floyd is part of the memorial for him near the site of his arrest. Floyd died in police custody Monday night in Minneapolis after video shared online by a bystander showed a white officer kneeling on his neck during an arrest. At the time, he pleaded that he couldn’t breathe.
Posts circulating on Facebook claim that the death of George Floyd – ruled a homicide after a Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck for almost nine minutes – was a “staged event.”
Is there any truth behind this conspiracy theory?
Politifact debunked this claim as part of Facebook’s partnership with the fact-checking organization. Madlin Mekleburg of Politifact Texas, based at the Austin American-Statesman, says that there is no evidence to support any part of the conspiracy theory.
