President Donald Trump told supporters in Texas that Democrat Beto O’Rourke “voted to shield MS-13 gang members from deportation.”

Was Trump right about O’Rourke casting such a vote? Gardner Selby of the PolitiFact Texas fact-checking team based at the Austin American-Statesman has the answer.

Trump rallied voters in Houston to support Sen. Ted Cruz and other Republicans on Monday. Selby says in the president’s remarks, he called O’Rourke – the Democratic U.S. House member from El Paso who’s challenging Cruz – a “phony” and a “radical, open-borders left-winger.”

“He voted against Kate’s Law and he voted for Obama amnesty. O’Rourke even voted to shield MS-13 gang members from deportation. He doesn’t want to deport them; he says they’re people – they’re people. They’ll carve you up with a knife, but they’re people,” Trump said.
