Fort Worth pediatrician Joyce Mauk recently told the Austin American-Statesman “One in 10 babies born in this country is born in Texas, and so it affects us disproportionately if access to health care is compromised for children.” Is that a fact? Gardner Selby of the Politifact Texas fact-checking team has the answer.

CHIP, a program that offers medical coverage to the children of the working poor, has recently lost funding from the federal and state government. Texas officials have said that without an extension, there’s just enough money on hand to maintain CHIP into early 2018, but no further.

Mauk’s claim stemmed from her support of CHIP funding. But is it accurate?

Find out how Mauk’s claim scored in the player above.
