Do 80% Of Children Born In Developing Countries Die Of Cancer Each Year?

In a recent tweet, U.S. Rep. Mike McCaul, a Republican from Austin, said that “80% of children born in developing countries die of cancer each year.” Is that a fact?

Madlin Mekelburg with PolitiFact Texas, based at the Austin American-Statesman, has the answer. She says McCaul sent the tweet in an effort to promote his own legislation aimed at helping kids with cancer here and abroad.

“He was sharing this statistic to paint a picture of what [kids in developing countries] are dealing with,” Mekelburg says,
