Doctor Says To Watch Out for School Sports Concussions

Parents, don’t forget to take precautions against concussions during the school sports season.

School is back in full swing. Students are hitting the books, but they’re also hitting the fields as sports season gears up. Of course, there are a handful of safety precautions on parents’ minds; sports in the Texas heat can lead to heat exhaustion, cramps, sprains and other injuries. But there’s something else for parents to keep in mind: concussions.

Concussions can often escape diagnosis in young athletes, and, if untreated, could cause health problems down the road. Dr. Darryl Camp, a neurologist at Lakeway Regional Medical Center in Austin, visited the Standard to discuss.
