Gov. Greg Abbott says the City of Austin allocates $20,000 for each person experiencing homelessness in the city.

Abbott tweeted the claim in response to Austin’s newly approved 2020 budget. Mekelburg says Abbott arrived at the number by dividing the budget amount allocated to homelessness programs by an estimate of the number of people experiencing homelessness in the city.
